Monthly Goals: July 2017

Instead of beginning the new year with one “life changing, new year, new you” resolution, I like to set weekly or monthly goals.  I find that I accomplish 10x’s more when I have a few { attainable } weekly goals { I always use my Simplified Planner to document daily and weekly goals }. These goals usually encourage my long term, “reach for the stars” goals. After all, growth requires time, attentiveness, and constant care. Have you ever seen a mustard seed? It’s the tiniest of seeds. Have you ever seen a mustard tree? The big branched tree doesn’t grow 10 feet over night. Gardeners must be patient while tending to the tree – watering, fertilizing, and shielding it from storms. Our aspirations are like mustard seeds and we must trust in the power of small beginnings. When we set smaller, daily goals that encourage our big, overarching, life goals, we are watering and fertilizing our dreams.

Here, I’m sharing 5 of my monthly goals for July. I thought it would be a fun idea to share my monthly goals with you on a regular basis. I think we could all use some encouragement and motivation when it comes to goals. After all, if we are going to accomplish something great, why not do it together?

  1. Use kinder words.

“When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.”  Proverbs 31:26

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”  Colossians 4:6

  1. Eat mor chikin. More protein, I mean protein.

One of my best friends { hey Jenn! } is encouraging me and inspiring me to hit “macros” so instead of counting calories, she is counting protein, carbs, and fat. Protein is likely to make you feel full and feeling full means less snacking. Less snacking means consuming less yucky calories.

  1. Cook a new meal once a week.

Even if it’s just for me, I want to prepare a protein packed dinner with fresh vegetables from my little potted porch garden. Apparently I love new recipes… I think it has a little something to do with goal #5.

  1. Travel to the beach.

I’m a sea loving beach girl and haven’t made it to the ocean yet! The beach is my happy place… I love the salt water, breezy air, and warm sand between my toes.

  1. “Just say yes.”

I don’t do this enough. I always err on the side of caution so this month I’m saying “yes” often and “yes” joyfully.

I had a little inspiration from Bob Goff – “I used to think you had to be special for God to use you, but now I know you simply need to say yes.”

“Yes! Let’s do it!”

“Yes, I’m in!”

“Yes, why not?!”

“Yes, let’s go!”

  1. These are all great goals! Love your first one. I recently talked about kindness in my last two posts and have made a personal list of acts of kindness I plan to do throughout the rest of the year…but maybe I should make it my goal to do them all this month!

  2. Love your goal of cooking a new meal once a week! It’s fun trying something new & maybe even learning a new way to cook other things in the process :)) My boyfriend and I do this a lot — thank God he likes to cook with me lol — but we just tried Zoodles for the first time recently & now we’re trying them in everything :)) Hope you have a happy July <3

  3. Hey girl! Sorry I have been super MIA for a while. How are you?! First, I love your metaphor of the mustard seed. VERY powerful. And your goals are so achievable, and yet motivational. The one I really love is the “yes”. I am working on this one. There can be some awesome memories on the other side of a “yes”! Can’t wait to hear how these went!
